I did a post back in October about wanting a home office.
The dormer space in my bedroom has been pretty much unused for the last 10 years. Just empty unused/catch-all space. When my youngest was born her crib and changing table where there until she moved into her own room and then it became a catch-all and a place where we put the computer but I have never enjoyed the area or every really “finished” it.
It has now officially become my next house project. There is not too much room in it, enough for a small desk and a chest of drawers. I want the space to feel cozy and pretty and I want to wallpaper it. After weeding through lots of samples I finally pulled the trigger and chose a paper (which is back ordered!)
My original inspiration came from Aerin Lauder’s dressing room in her East Hampton home — I know it is not an office — but it spoke to me………
The dormer is right next to my closet and I often get dressed there so it needs to do double duty as a pretty dressing area and home office.
This is what the space currently looks like ……
And this is the paper I’m going with (it looks very blue in this pic but it is actually a very soft pale gray/blue)
I was originally thinking I would do a little picture gallery above the chest of drawers(which will be used more like a credenza) but now I’m not certain, I think I may want a mirror. I found some great ones on Lamps Plus. But of course I’m overwhelmed with the 14 pages of choices that came up. I thought I’d share some favorites.
What do you like, picture gallery or mirror?
Have a beautiful day!

Love the mirrors!!!!
I vote mirror. Can’t wait to see the finished product – it’s going to be beautiful!
I love the mirrors, they are different, Once again, I love the idea of using your visions and posts and putting them into a real space with before and after pictures. Very inspirational! I hope I can spring into some do it yourself makeovers!. Look forward to seeing when it is done.
Hi Valerie, Back in the 80′s (before kids) I ran a “shop at home” interior decorating business. Wallpaper was really big back then, glad to see it coming back. Your wallpaper is so beautiful, and will dress up this room, while making it feel quite cozy and chic. I love the idea of the ornate mirror to go with this look, as it will add more depth and texture. Also, If you were planning on doing a window treatment, to get a more dramatic look, start from the ceiling and bring the panels to the floor, making the window appear larger, That will get you the look you saw in the original photo, Beautiful! I can’t wait to see it when it’s done!
It’ll be beautiful when you’re done Valarie, you have fabulous taste!
