A Change

What I Want Wednesday

Until I decide what is next for me, I think that today’s post will be my last for a while.  Initially when I decided to start writing a blog, I kind of had it in my head that I would give it a try for at least 6 months to a year.  I am proud to say that I’m just one week shy of my one year anniversary!

I’m proud that I stepped outside of my box and gave it a try, it has been a great learning experience for me both personally and on the technology side of things.

I owe my home office, some painted furniture, a closet re-do and some fun crafts to my blog!

For now though, I’m finding that I cannot devote the time that is needed to continue creating and delivering the blog that I had originally envisioned.

Before I completely check “having a blog” off my bucket list, I’m going to take some time to think about a different approach.  I was thinking of possibly doing a monthly newsletter type blog which would combine all of the things that I like to chat about in one monthly post.

Whatever decision I come to, I’m so happy for the decision that I did make to get my first post out there (and that you where there on the other end to enjoy it!)

Hearing from readers is huge, I’m so grateful for the nice comments and feedback that I have received in the past and would especially welcome your thoughts and suggestions on this one!

For now……. have a beautiful day!

Fall Fashion

The Denim Jacket

Fall is perfect weather for a denim jacket.  I don’t think a denim jacket is just for the younger folk either.  Like most items, worn the right way we can all pull it off if we want to.

There is a women who comes into the salon where I work, every Saturday to get her hair done, she is 85+ and she rocks a denim jacket like nobody’s business.  One of these days I’m going to feature her on the blog!  She wears her hair naturally grey in a page-boy cut, black framed glasses and she always looks fantastic and fashionable.

So take it from her, we are never too old for a denim jacket.  No need to spend oodles of money either, in my opinion, a $40 jacket works just as well as one that costs $200+.  I can’t imagine spending that kind of money on a jean jacket but there are plenty of brands that are on the upside of $200.  Here is a look at some denim from $20 – $118 and some age appropriate outfits.

Hope you get a chance to throw on your denim jacket and have a beautiful fall weekend!!

A Fall Mantle

What I Want Wednesday

Those that know me well, know that my mantle usually causes me stress.  I’m always fooling with it and just when I think I’m settled into it the season changes and it’s time for an update!  That’s exactly how I felt this week, I had just finished decorating with some blue and white accents that I was pleased with and then the fall bug drew me in!  I decided I wanted to get my fall mantle going.

I took a trip to A.C. Moore and Michaels in search of some little pumpkins to paint for my mantle and I was thinking I would do another decoupage plaque.  Of course I came home with more than I could tackle in a day, but I thought I would share what I’ve started off with — a pumpkin with a little bling and a super easy arrangement.

I found a decent looking black vase for $6 and some nice fillers.  A branch with pumpkins, some feathers and an adorable owl.  I also got a witches hat to paint and some really cool Martha Stewart decoupage paper with a plaque.

I bought these little white pumpkins and used some painters tape to tape off where I wanted a change in color.  I used acrylic paints to paint them.  I had to do some damage control however because when I peeled off the tape it looked very messy.  I had purchased some “bling on a roll”  at Michaels which is a sticky strip of sequins, I used this to cover the messy job and it worked quite well.

Then I put together an arrangement with only four items, a branch with pumpkins, a feather filler, an adorable little owl sitting on a branch and some beads on a wire.

Look how cute that little owl is (found at Michael’s) notice the leopard like pattern on his feathers?

So I feel like I’m off to a good start with my fall/halloween mantle this year (and so early in the season!)  I just wish the photos came out a little better I know the lighting is off but it’s from my phone so I can’t expect too much.

If your feeling like it’s time to get your fall decorating going, Kate from the blog Centsational Girl features a “link party” each fall which is a great source for inspiration.  Check out this link here  {Thrifty Decor Chick} to view the fall mantle link party. Each day this week there is something different to check out.

Have a beautiful day!!

Happy Fall

Happy Fall!

My personal favorite time of the year.  Crisp mornings, colors bursting everywhere, cozying up the house for fall, pumpkin breads and warm toasty evenings, and who would argue that the fall can be the best time of year for fashion!  Riding boots, sweaters and scarves : )

Last year around this time I posted one of my favorite fall recipes pumpkin bread, you may not have been following the blog then and it is worth checking out – it is very yummy.  Just click the pumpkin bread link to see recipe.

Some pretty fall inspiration to start your week…..

Four Fall Outfits

Happy Friday!

Here is a round up of the trends and styles that I highlighted this week.  Keep in mind, these are only a few of the trends that are out there this fall.  Others include leather accents on clothing, laser cut leather, embellished clothing and accessories, color blocking, statement necklaces are still big, as well as statement earrings and camouflage print.

Lots out there to choose from depending on your style!  Just remember they should be worn in small doses and mixed with classics to keep you from looking like a total fashion victim ; )

Here’s what I would pick……

Statement Coat

Animal Print

Saturday afternoon lunch

tweed and cobalt

Have a beautiful weekend!
